Thousands of Strood homes hit by water supply issues after burst water main

More than a thousand homes have been hit with water supply issues just days before Christmas.

A burst main pipe has left people across Strood and Rochester with little or no water.

It’s understood problems were first reported at around 5am and it is estimated that up to 1,100 properties may be impacted.

Businesses have also been hit with The Sportsman pub in Brompton Lane posted a statement informing customers it will be closed until tomorrow as it has “no water so most equipment can’t be used”.

St Nicholas Church in Strood High Street has also been impacted. It posted online: “Due to no water we sadly need to cancel today's Warm Space.”

A spokesperson for Southern Water, said: “We're very sorry to customers who are experiencing low pressure or no supply in Rochester, Kent.

“We understand how disruptive this is and we are delivering bottled water to every household impacted.”

The water company says it believes the outage is due to a burst water main and its teams are working “around the clock” to find and repair the leak.

In the meantime, it says it will continue bottled water deliveries until the burst is repaired.

If anyone impacted has not received bottled water, Southern Water has urged them to get in touch by calling 0330 303 0368."

The utility company says it is aiming to find and fix the burst within the next 24 hours.
