Each year more than 12,000 patients are being treated in corridors at Medway Hospital according to the latest board papers.

Each month hundreds who come to A&E are receiving treatment in corridor for all or part of their stay.

Some wait for hours, such as 88-year-old Jessie Wilson, who waited 13 hours for a bed to become available on a ward.

However, there are signs of improvement, nearly three years after the hospital was placed in special measures.

According to the latest figures, in June 855 patients received all or part of their treatment in corridors, the lowest figure this year.

But over the previous 12 months, more than 1,000 people a year have been without a bed on ward.

In an interview with the BBC, a hospital spokesman said the figures included people who spent just five minutes on a corridor.

The hospital also said all treated given to patients in corridors meets the "acceptable clinical criteria."
