Three men were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after a church was covered in graffiti.

Police are investigating the incident which happened just before 2pm on Sunday, October 28.

Swear words and sketches were spray painted across the church.

The vandalism has not yet been removed.

The Team from St Mark's Church said: "We think it's a really unfortunate situation.

"We've reported it to the police and the council are aware of it too.

"But we're at the heart of Gillingham and we will still be here for the community."

A cashpoint in the High Street, Gillingham was also vandalised at a similar time.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, both of no fixed address, on suspicion of criminal damage.

Both have been released under investigation.

An 18-year-old man from Essex was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, he was released without charge.

Police spokesman Sally Smith said: "Officers were called, to St Mark's Church, after a member of the public witnessed two men spray-painting the church.

"With the assistance of CCTV officers located three men who were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. "
