The thick fog may have caused a number of car accidents on the Hoo Peninsula this morning.

At least three separate crashes happened on different sections of the A228 and parts of the Ratcliffe Highway.

The emergency services were called out at about 7.45am after the first crash which is believed to involved a motorcycle and several cars.

It happened close to High Halstow and closed the road while the emergency services dealt with the scene and paramedics treated the rider, who suffered a leg injury.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Eight cars are thought to be involved in the crash, and the motorcyclist is conscious and has injured his leg.

“The road is blocked with the vehicles and the crash in on the carriageway going towards the Isle of Grain not far from Kingsnorth.”

Firefighters from Strood and Medway fire stations were also sent to the scene as fuel has spilt onto the road.

Shortly after the first crash two more separate crashes happened shortly after 8am, on another stretch of the A228.

One car is thought to have left the road near the Kingsnorth roundabout, but no other vehicles were involved in the crash

Then just minutes later another vehicle came off the road near the Christmas Lane roundabout.

It is not thought anyone suffered life-threatening injuries during any of the crashes.

The police spokesman said: “The road will be closed while the vehicles are removed, motorist are advised to avoid the area if possible.”
