A man was arrested after a car crashed into traffic lights near a leisure centre.
One lane was closed in Brompton Road, Gillingham after the black Nissan hit the traffic island by Medway Park.
Pictures show the damaged vehicle blocking the route near Mill Road, and debris along with the remnants of the traffic lights on the ground.
Drivers were able to slowly pass the scene, but the area is congested throughout the morning rush hour.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at 5.40am today to a report a car had struck a traffic light in Brompton Road, Gillingham.
“Officers attended the scene where no injuries were reported and arrangements were made to recover the vehicle.
“A 51-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was taken into custody.”
Nengyong Wu, of Orion Road, Rochester, was later charged with being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst unfit through drink.
The 51-year-old was bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 7.
The car has since been recovered and the road fully reopened.
