Trains stopped between Rochester and Swanley after damage to third rail

Several miles of a rail route are closed following damage to the third rail.

Trains are not running between Rochester and Swanley but they are still running in the opposite direction.

A tweet from train operators Southeastern just before 4pm today said: "The electrical third rail has sustained damage between Rochester and Swanley.

"The London-bound line is blocked, trains are unable to run from Rochester towards Swanley.

"Trains from Swanley towards Rochester are not affected."

The firm said the line would be blocked between 6pm and 8pm.

Trains are being diverted via Dartford and a bus replacement service is running from Rochester towards Swanley.

The stops between these two destinations are Sole Street, Meopham, Longfield and Farningham Road.
