Unauthorised traveller encampment remains at Laburnum Recreational Ground in Strood

A group of travellers who pitched up by a children’s play area more than two weeks ago still remain on the site.

Several caravans which arrived on June 8 are still on the playground next to Laburnum Road Recreation Ground in Strood.

One woman who lives in the area said: “They still haven’t been moved on even though they’ve been there for weeks.

“All local residents are being told is the process is under way to get them to move on.”

The resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the group are causing disruption in the area.

“Local people feel unable to enjoy the recreation ground and to walk their dogs,” she said.

“Residents are having to put up with barking dogs and music being played throughout the day and into the evening.”

Ian Gilmore, head of regulatory and environmental services at Medway Council, said: "We are aware of the group and will be following a civil legal process to move them on."
