A young man who was killed after being hit by a car in Hoo during the early hours of Sunday had been walking home from a night out in Rochester, his heartbroken mother has revealed.
Aron Baker had begun to make his way home after getting separated from his friends and had almost reached his destination when he was knocked down by a silver Vauxhall Vectra on the Ratcliffe Highway just after 3am.
Mr Baker, 24, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries, but police revealed this morning he died yesterday afternoon.
Allison Baker posted on the Hoo Village Appreciation Group on Facebook saying the victim was her son after another member broke the news Mr Baker had passed away.
Many people posted on the site to say they were thinking of the dead man’s family, which prompted his mum to write her post.
She posted: “It was my beautiful kind boy who was separated from his friends on a night out in Rochester and for a reason only he knew decided to walk home.
“He was nearly there before being hit by a car and was stolen from us.
“We’ve only been here a year and haven’t got to do all we had planned.
“Thank you all for your wishes, they are appreciated.”
His cousin, Kirsty Ann Aked, also posted saying: “Rest in Peace my beautiful cousin.”
And Mr Baker’s girlfriend also posted a tribute to him on her own Facebook page.
Daniella Mead said: “My darling boy.
“You honestly are a true fighter and I love you with every piece of my heart. Sleep tight my gorgeous boy.”
Officers from the serious collision investigation unit are investigating the incident, which happened on the Rochester-bound carriageway between the junctions with Bell’s Lane and Main Road, and want to hear from any witnesses.
They are also keen to speak with anyone who may have seen Mr Baker in the moments leading up to the collision.
It is believed he was walking towards Hoo, from Rochester, on the Rochester-bound carriageway and was wearing a blue-and-white striped shirt and blue jeans.
