Motorists heading towards Wainscott and Strood will still face delays after the tunnel was closed shortly before 3pm.

The accident happened on the Strood-bound side of the A289 at its entrance near Maritime Way.

No one has been seriously injured as a result of the crash.

Police said the tunnel was closed for a short time while the cars were moved from the road.

Spokesman Martin Very, said: "Kent Police was called at 2.55pm regarding a collision involving two cars at entrance to the Medway Tunnel, Chatham.

"Officers attended the scene where no injuries were reported.

"Both cars have been moved from the carriageway."
