A second woman has died after a crash in Station Road, Strood, on Sunday.

The woman, who has not been named but is in her 60s, died after being struck by a Seat Ibiza car at about noon.

She was initially airlifted to the Royal London Hospital but later died of her injuries.

Another woman, who was 84, died at the scene of the crash, both were believed to have been crossing the road at the time of the accident and both are from Strood.

Initial reports suggested an 18-year-old Chatham man, the driver of the car involved, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but police have now said no arrests were made.

Crash investigators dealing with the accident are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw the car before the accident happened.

A spokesman for Kent Police, said: "Officers from the serious collision investigation unit are appealing for any witnesses to the collision itself, or anyone who may have seen the Seat in the area prior to the collision, to contact them on 01622 798535 or on Crimestoppers with any information."
