Balfour Winery in Staplehurst and Royal Engineers Museum in Brompton named top visitor attractions by VisitEngland

Two Kent attractions have been awarded accolades by VisitEngland for their “high quality” visitor experience.

Balfour Winery in Staplehurst and Royal Engineers Museum in Chatham are two of 91 venues across England deemed ideal places to visit.

It follows the annual VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme assessment.

The accolade recognises all aspects of the visitor experience and are awarded in five categories including Hidden Gem, Best Told Story, Quality Food and Drink, Welcome, as well as Gold for all-round top-scoring attractions.

Balfour Winery, in Five Oak Lane, was given the gold award after scoring top marks in every category.

A spokesman for Balfour Winery said: “We are delighted to be awarded the Gold Accolade from Visit England. Being the only Winery in England to have received this award shows the dedication of our team to deliver a world class experience and exceptional wines.

“The team are very passionate about everything they do, from providing fun and informative wine experiences to the care and expertise the vineyard and estate team have in keeping the 400-acres of manicured vineyards, apple orchards, wildflower meadows and ancient oak woodland, rich in flora and fauna.

“It goes to show that wine tourism in England is becoming ever popular, Balfour winery being the place to experience excellent English Wines, delicious food and glorious English countryside all year round. We’ve now made it even easier to get to the winery by providing a free shuttle bus service from Marden train station to the winery every weekend from 10am.”

While the county’s largest military museum, in Prince Arthur Road, Brompton, near Gillingham won the Hidden Gem accolade.

VisitEngland director Andrew Stokes said: “These accolades are a testament to the outstanding experiences and customer service that attractions in England give visitors.

“They also recognise different aspects of the visitor experience with attractions who really go the extra mile, whether it’s offering exceptional food and drink or magical storytelling.

“The attractions honoured today go out of their way to make visits memorable, creating reasons for people to travel to new locations, also boosting local economies across England.”
