Two singers from Medway made it through the auditions of the BBC talent show The Voice last night (Saturday).
Joseph Apostol, from Gillingham, and Adam Barron, from Chatham, pictured, impressed the coaches enough to earn a place in one of their teams for the next round.
MidKent College student Joseph, 21, sang “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”, while 27-year-old father-of-two Adam, chose “Summertime”.
Both were left on tenterhooks while performing, as it wasn’t until the last few seconds of their songs that a coach decided to turn their chair around.
In the blind auditions stage of the show, contestants sing with the coaches sat facing away from them.
If more than one turns around, then the contestant gets to choose which team to be on.
The coaches are Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, will.iam and Danny O'Donaghue.
Jessie J pressed her button at the very last second of Adam’s performance, while Joseph had to choose between Sir Tom and Jessie J.
Adam, who works for a publishing company in Maidstone and lives near Pattens Lane, said his reaction to being picked was “more relief than anything else”.
“There were two moments where I thought they would press their buttons and it got to the end of the song and those moments had come and gone,” he said.
“When Jessie pressed her button I jumped about six feet in the air.”
Joseph, who moved to the Towns from the Philippines when he was 10, lives in Shakespeare Road. His mum works at Medway Maritime Hospital.
He said: “I said to myself I didn’t think they were going to turn around. I was shocked and surprised.”
