Four charged after suspected attempted robbery in Balmoral Road, Gillingham

Two people have been taken to hospital with head injuries after a suspected attempted robbery which sparked a high-speed police chase.

Officers were called to reports of intruders attempting to force their way into a house in Balmoral Road, Gillingham before fleeing on Thursday night (January 2).

Police say they were called to reports of an attempted robbery at around 9pm.

When they arrived at the scene, two of the occupants had suffered head injuries and were treated by paramedics before being taken to a local hospital.

Officers then pursued a Ford Focus travelling along the A20 which allegedly continued to speed on towards Lewisham despite being asked to stop.

Eventually, the car hit a barrier and the group fled on foot.

They were later located and arrested with help from a police helicopter and Met Police patrols.

Mustafa Rahim, 28, of Dashwood Estate, Sydenham, Tajsharn Cummings, 25, of no fixed address, John Smith, 24, of Pin Mill, Basildon, Essex, and Deniqko Benton, 19, of Oakfield Road, East Ham were taken into custody and later charged on suspicion of robbery.

Mr Rahim was also charged with dangerous driving and Mr Benton with possession of cannabis.

All four suspects appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on January 4 where they were remanded to a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on February 3.
