A hairdresser from Twydall has won an award at the Oscars of the hairdressing world.
Darren Bain, who grew up in Twydall, was named London Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards on November 23.
The 35-year-old, who went to the now-closed Woodlands secondary school, had to submit a series of portfolios over the course of eight months to judges of the competition.
Mr Bain, who used to live in Sturry Way, Twydall, said: “It’s a very long process and quite tough, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages.
“I was up against some really good people and I was overwhelmed when I won. I’d always dreamed of getting this award.”
Mr Bain’s first job was at a salon in Gillingham. Since then he has moved to London and now works for HOB Salons. Last year he won the Fellowship Fashion Focus Image of the Year.
