A robot made out of disused shopping trolleys, an axe and a old wheelchair motor will compete in Robot Wars on Sunday night.
Trolley Rage2 was made by technicians and mechanical engineering student Gareth Anstee at the University of Greenwich’s campus in Chatham Maritime.
It is the first time the university has entered a robot into the TV series, which is in its ninth season.
Prof Simeon Keates, deputy vice-chancellor for engineering, said: “Our aim is to demonstrate how simple, cheap and sustainable it can be to build a robot.
"Taking part in the television show, and having the chance to put Trolley Rage2 through its paces in the famous Glasgow arena, is fun and exciting.”
Plans are already in hand for building a more robust university robot, which Mr Anstee is planning to take to Robot Wars Live contests across the country.
The university will host its third Robot Wars Live show at the Medway campus in September.
Schools from across the South East will compete with robots they have made with university engineers in a special schools’ performance of the Robot Wars Live show.
Trolley Rage2’s fate in the arena will be revealed in Robot Wars on BBC two on Sunday night, at 7pm.
