Victim 'makes off from scene of assault' in Stuart Road, Gillingham

Both the alleged victim and perpetrator of an assault reportedly fled where it happened this afternoon.

About a dozen officers were called to Stuart Road, Gillingham, at 1.15pm to reports of an assault.

A police spokesman said: “Patrols attended and it was reported those involved, including the alleged victim, had made off. Officers remain at the scene and enquiries continue.”

The alleged victim and alleged perpetrator, both male, are being sought. Forensic crews were in Stuart Road and police stood guard outside a home in nearby Canterbury Street.

Police said they could not confirm or deny social media reports that the incident was a stabbing without examining the victim.

One neighbour said: “I heard shouting and screaming and went outside but it was already over. This is usually quite a peaceful area.”
