Jayne Snow films Rochester Christmas Market mannequin challenge

A singer caused Rochester’s Christmas market to come to a complete standstill, for the mannequin challenge.

During a performance at the market yesterday Jayne Snow from Rochester asked the crowd if they wanted to take part in the viral craze.

The mannequin challenge is an internet trend where groups film themselves staying frozen like mannequins, usually with the song Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background.

The 25-year-old said: “It was really a spur of the moment thing but it was such good fun.

“One of the organisers, Sam, helped me. I was on stage performing and I was trying to get the crowd going and asked them if they wanted to do a mannequin challenge.

"It was quite difficult and definitely a challenge because new people were walking into the market every time, but it was really good fun.”

Jayne will be performing at the markets over the festive period and said more local people should visit and see what it has to offer.

She added: “The market is really good for the community and people should be coming down and supporting all the local businesses and music that makes the market. People should come down and enjoy the festivities.”

Jayne gave up her job as a store manager for DIY giant Wickes, to pursue her dream of becoming a professional musician.

She is usually spotted busking in Victoria, London Bridge and Waterloo railway stations after she won a Network Rail Scheme competition.

Jayne also won the southern England final of a open mic competition earlier this month and will perform in the final at the NEC Arena in Birmingham in January. She will compete against 25 other finalists in front of record label executives.

She said: “I’m nervous and excited - you never know what might happen.”
