Police have shared footage of a driver caught speeding at 83mph in a 40mph zone this morning.

Officers said the driver apologised after being stopped, having been seen racing up Blue Bell Hill and on to Maidstone Road at around 7.35am.

The footage shows him racing along the A229 and past the Holiday Inn.

Kent Police's RPU team tweeted: "We'd only been on the road a few minutes when #RPU1 saw this vehicle travelling at high speed along Blue Bell Hill. At times, driver was reaching speeds of 83mph in 40mph limit. Average speed calculated at 77mph. Driver apologised & had no excuse for such poor driving."

Kent Police said the driver was issued with a Traffic Offence Report, so could receive a fine and points on their licence.
