Coronavirus Kent: Rainham girl takes part in virtual choir to support NHS workers across the country

A home-schooled pupil took to Twitter with her friends across the country to perform a Coldplay song to NHS staff battling the coronavirus.

Ellila-Jean Wood, from Parkwood, Rainham, was watching the news with her mum, Kirsty, when choirmaster Gareth Malone spoke about bringing people together with songs.

The 11-year-old, a performer herself, took to Twitter to get her friends from all across the country involved in a virtual choir dedicated to NHS workers.

Kirsty, a social media manager, said: "Ellila-Jean was home schooled before all this lockdown, so in some aspects we've been quite lucky – it's been rather normal for us.

"But Ellila-Jean understands the hardships that other people are having, so she decided to get in touch with her friends and do something about it."

The singers in the video are aged from six to 14 and are all performers or actors themselves.

Kirsty said:"We're based in Rainham but there were singers all the way to Manchester, it was just lovely really.

"One of the choir members' parents are from the band, Random Cow. They kindly offered to play the backing track for Fix You for us.

"And M Gap Audio productions put all of the sound and videos together for us. It was a wonderful team effort.

"The kids did everything, they can't go to school or play out any more so they put all their effort into the choir.

"They chose the song, they named the group, it was just brilliant."
