The results for this year’s Medway Test will be sent to parents today, with thousands of children finding out if they are eligible to attend a grammar school.
More than 3,000 children from the Towns and other areas took this year’s 11-Plus exams in September.
Papers were sat for extended writing, mathematics and verbal reasoning to assess whether children are of grammar ability.
A total of 23% will be selected for Medway grammar schools, with up to another 2% chosen on appeal.
All children who go to Medway schools, except King’s School, Rochester, sat the test in their own school. In 2012, pupils have gone to test centres but this faced heavy criticism.
Cllr Martin Potter, who is in charge of educational attainment and improvement, said: “Each and every child who took this year’s test should feel proud of their hard work and exceptional behaviour during the test and I wish them well for their results.
“I would like to thank all of the council, independent Medway Test and school staff for their hard work to ensure the Medway Test ran smoothly for the children.”
If you registered online you will be sent an email after 4pm today. All parents will be sent a letter by first class post.
The results will give parents their child’s total score, a breakdown of the scores for each paper, a decision on whether their child is assessed as grammar or non-grammar and details of what they need to do next.
All children will be told on National Offer Day, March 1, 2018, which specific school they have been offered a place at but if a child has been assessed as suitable for grammar school, this doesn’t guarantee them a grammar school place.
If a parent is unhappy with the result of their child’s test, they can request an academic review of their school work.
Review requests must be submitted by Monday, October 16. Reviews take place over Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20.
The results from the Medway Test are used exclusively for Medway grammar schools, as is the Kent Test for Kent schools. Children in Medway who want to apply to a grammar school outside of the Towns can also take the Kent Test. These results are due out on Thursday.
