Water supplies have returned after a residential street was flooded following a burst main.
Part of Albatross Avenue in Strood was submerged yesterday and residents reported having low water pressure – with some people being left without any at all.
People living in the ME2 and ME3 areas – which cover Strood, Halling, Cuxton, Frindsbury, Hoo Peninsula and Higham – were also impacted, with some reporting that water was “dribbling out of the tap”.
A Southern Water spokesman said: “We’re sorry some customers in Cobham postcode areas ME2 and some of ME3 experienced a loss of water or low pressure caused by a major burst water main in the area.
“Our teams have stabilised the burst and everyone is now back in supply.
“The longer-term repair to fix the burst main will take time due to the complexity of the site.”
One resident took advantage of the water yesterday and took to the street in his canoe, but at least one car is expected to be damaged after it was left underwater.
Resident Lisa Laverty, 37, had to barricade her door with sandbags after the road started flooding at about 7am.
She told KentOnline at the time: “It's up to the second step of my porch and I've had to put sandbags down. I'm not happy. I'm not happy at all about this.
“We spent a lot of money on my house and now I'm worried that I'm going to get a lot of mould from the damp.”
She said her family was given two crates of water last night, and that Southern Water “had vans on each street going from door to door.”
The water company said, due to the scale of the burst, a small number of properties in the area were flooded.
A spokesman explained: “Our customer support teams are continuing to work with householders who have been flooded as a result of the initial burst.
“Anyone who is impacted should go through their own insurers in the first instance. We’re sorry for the pain and worry this must be causing.”
