A little baby boy keen not to make an appearance in 2015 was a perfect little bundle of joy for his parents on New Year’s Day.
Kerry and Philip Martin, both 31, were expecting Oliver on December 19, but when he failed to arrive almost two weeks later Mrs Martin was induced.
Oliver James Martin was born at Medway Maritime Hospital, weighing 9lb 3oz, at 1.55am.
Mrs Martin said: “It all happened very quickly. It only took about four hours. I think we will have more.”
They were joined later on New Year’s Day morning by Oliver’s ecstatic grandparents, Cheryl and John Janman.
Mr Janman, from Eastchurch, Sittingbourne, said: “We’re so proud. Our baby has had a baby.”
Another baby, Hollie Swayland, missed out on having the same birthday as her mother, by just 12 minutes.
Due Christmas Eve, little Hollie held out until 2016, and mum Natasha Petley was induced. But even then, after 24 hours in labour, Miss Petley needed to have an emergency C-section. Weighing 6lb 12oz she was born at 12.12am.
Born on New Year’s Eve herself, Miss Petley said: “I was
hoping she would come on my birthday, but she obviously wanted to wait.”
After such a long time in hospital, dad James Swayland left Miss Petley in the hands of her mum, brother and other family to get some rest, and an exhausted but happy Miss Petley added: “I’m planning on getting some sleep too now.”
Also born at Medway on the same day was Lily Hatherly.
Mum Charlotte Vernel, 25, started having contractions on December 29 and her labour lasted 48 hours, but she was glowing over the birth of her baby girl.
Lily weighed 6lb 14oz and was one day early, born at 1.44am.
She is Miss Vernel’s first child, but Lily has two grown-up half-sisters, Abbie and Hollie, to help look after her by dad Charlie Hatherly, 51.
