NHS health and wellbeing bus to give advice and Covid vaccines in Strood and Gillingham

A converted bus offering advice, checks and Covid vaccines is set to give residents a healthy start to the new year.

The double decker is coming to Medway next week where residents can get their vaccine, or have their BMI, blood pressure and heart health checked by NHS professionals without an appointment.

The Make Every Contact Count (MECC) health and wellbeing bus features trained NHS staff who are able to advise on how to be healthier and fitter.

They are also able to make recommendations to people on how to stop smoking, reduce alcohol usage, and find cancer support services.

It will be parked in the Asda car park in Strood between Tuesday, January 17, and Saturday, January 21, from 10am to 4pm daily.

The following week it will set up in the Gillingham Asda car park from Tuesday January 24 until Friday, January 28.

NHS Kent and Medway chief medical officer Dr Kate Langford said: “The health and wellbeing bus is an exciting project that will enable us to reach into the communities we serve, and support people make positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing.”
