A shopper who ordered a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers with her online groceries was stunned to be given a bunch of spring ONIONS instead.
Suzanne Bradish, of Watts Avenue, Rochester, was expecting to receive a colourful arrangement of gerberas, roses and sunflowers with her weekly shop from Sainsbury's.
But the flowers were out of stock - so supermarket staff thought spring onions were a suitable "like for like" alternative.
The music venue events assistant said: "It's not my first time ordering online but my first time from Sainsbury's.
"They had a promotion on so I thought I'd avail of it. I was just short of a minimum spend to get money off so I thought I'd treat myself to some flowers.
"My boyfriend took in the shopping and thought nothing of the spring onions until I got home."
Ms Bradish jokingly tweeted a picture of the onions in a vase, with the caption: "Thanks for the flowers substitution @sainsburys!"
It has been retweeted more than 3,000 times.
She added: "I guess they'll work a bit better in my salad!"
Before the tweet went viral, Sainsbury’s sent her a £5 voucher, and have since sent a letter of apology and a bunch of flowers.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: "Lettuce apologise for our eye-watering mistake.
"We’re springing into action and have already spoken to the customer who really knows her onions. We feel like a right bunch of daffs."
