Tickets for Will Young’s appearance at this year’s Castle Concerts sold out within a few hours of going on sale.
The Brook and Central Theatre box offices and the Castle Concerts website were in unprecedented demand as soon as tickets went on sale at 10am yesterday, Monday.
Meanwhile hundreds of fans queued to book at the Visitor Information Centre in Rochester. Tickets for top girl band The Saturdays went on sale at the same time and are also selling fast.
Caroline Dhudwar and Fran Wells, both from Rochester, were the first in the queue at the Visitor Information Centre and bought tickets for both concerts. Caroline said: “When I heard Will Young was playing here I couldn’t believe it. I got here at about a quarter to eight this morning to make sure I didn’t miss out”.
A Medway Council spokesman said: “All of the tills at our two theatre box offices and at the Visitor Information Centre have been extremely busy with sales this morning, and there was a particularly high demand online as thousands of people rushed to buy tickets at the same time.
“We’d like to thank those customers who have waited so patiently for tickets and will be dealing with bookings for the remaining concerts as quickly as possible”.
Tickets are already virtually sold out for Status Quo, who will kick off this year’s concerts on July 14 . Will Young will perform on July 15 and The Saturdays will take the stage on July 16.
The concert series will end in traditional style with the popular Castle Proms, performed by The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra on July 17.
Ticket prices for the remaining concerts are The Saturdays £29.50 and Castle Proms £29.50. Bookings can be made in person at The Central Theatre box office, The Brook Theatre box office and Medway Visitor Information Centre, by phone on 338338 or online at www.castleconcerts.co.uk
