Woman charged with murder after man found dead in Gun Lane, Strood

A woman has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in a block of flats.

Police were called to Gun Lane in Strood at around 12.30am on Friday, July 26 where officers found the body of a man in his 60s.

The victim has been named in court documents as Alan Tomkins.

Nina Mercer, 42, who was known to the victim, was arrested at around 4am the same day.

Mercer, also of Gun Lane, was later charged with murder and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court tomorrow.

Speaking on Tuesday, one woman who lives nearby and didn’t want to be named said: “It really is shocking. I saw the police last week but had no idea it was something like this.”
