A woman who was airlifted to hospital after being seriously hurt in an incident in Gillingham yesterday lunchtime has died of her injuries, police confirmed this afternoon.
Flowers have been placed near the scene, close to Gillingham railway station today, as news of the tragedy spread across the area.
Another woman, aged 44, was initially arrested on suspicion of assault but was released later the same day without charge.
She is still helping police with their enquiries.
Police were called to Balmoral Road in Gillingham at 12.10pm where the injured woman was found on the street.
Part of the area was cordoned off as police conducted initial inquiries into how the victim received her injuries.
No information has been released on the type of injuries she had sustained.
A police spokesman said: "A 44 year old Gillingham woman is helping police with their enquiries following an incident in Balmoral Road, Gillingham, on Saturday 12 December.
"Kent Police was called at 12.10pm where a woman was found with injuries. The ambulance service treated the patient at the scene before she was taken to hospital. However, she died that evening.
"Officers are treating the incident as an unexplained death and enquiries are ongoing."
Several ambulances were also called, and the air ambulance landed in playing fields opposite Medway Park.
