A woman charged following the death of a newborn baby has been freed on bail.
The child, a girl who was just two weeks and six days old, was found dead after police and paramedics were called to a road in Chatham.
Attempts were made to save the baby, named in court as Kailiya, but she was pronounced dead at the house in Albert Road.
A woman, the child’s mother, was arrested shortly after.
Charlie Hedges, 29, has been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child on July 11.
She was granted bail and now a High Court judge has rejected an application by the Crown Prosecution Service for bail to be withdrawn.
Hedges, who appeared by prison video link, was given bail until the next hearing on August 9 when she is expected to enter a plea.
