A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a car on a private driveway.
The victim, thought to be in her 50s, was taken to hospital following the accident in Bayswater Drive, Rainham.
The Health and Safety Executive has since been called to investigate.
Paramedics were called just after 11.20am on Monday, and treated the woman at the scene for injuries to her head and legs.
Air ambulance crews then accompanied her to King's College Hospital in London in a road ambulance.
Police were called just after 1pm and a spokesman said: "The incident is reported to have involved a pedestrian and a car, and happened on a private driveway.
"The Health and Safety Executive is dealing with this incident. The woman remains in hospital in a critical condition."
The HSE mainly deals with accidents that occur within work environments. The accident is believed to have involved a mechanics or recovery business.
