A woman had to be cut out of her car by firefighters after a head-on collision with another car in Ash Tree Lane, Chatham, this afternoon.

Firefighters from Medway and Strood fire stations were called to the crash scene at about 4.10pm after the wreckage trapped the woman in her Vauxhall Corsa, which had hit another Corsa travelling in the opposite direction.

The woman is thought to have suffered neck, back and hip injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The Kent Air Ambulance was scrambled, along with land ambulances, and doctors gave advice, but after the woman was freed, it was deemed safe enough to take her to Medway Maritime Hospital in a land ambulance.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The wreckage had trapped her, we cut off the roof of the vehicle to get her out on a longboard and onto the ambulance.

"The two men in the other car were also treated by paramedics, but had been able to get out of their car themselves.

"After we freed the woman, who was in her 40s, we made sure the scene was safe and then left.

"We were there for about an hour.

"There was a lot of traffic congestion in the area as we dealt with the accident."
