A 53-year-old woman has been given a five year anti social behaviour order (ASBO) after causing persistent problems in Medway.
Eileen Hutton, of Northcote Road, has been in police custody 19 times already during 2009. Since October 1 2008 Kent Police has received 146 calls relating to her behaviour
On May 21, she pleaded guilty to four charges of assault on police officers and two charges of harassment. She was initially given a community order, which has now led to the successful application of the ASBO.
Hutton is prevented under the terms of the order from shouting threatening, abusive or insulting language that causes harassment, alarm or distress to anyone who doesn't live with her.
Police anti-social behaviour officer Peter Jackson said: "We will not hesitate to take enforcement action against the minority of people whose unacceptable behaviour adversely affects the quality of life for people who live and work in the Medway Towns.
"Eileen’s Hutton behaviour has caused misery for families who have been victims of her intimidating and threatening behaviour. I would like to thank the witnesses whose cooperation was essential for our success in this case.’
Chief Insp Peter de Lozey added: ‘Mrs Hutton has caused persistent problems for neighbours and law-abiding members of the local community in Strood. A five-year anti social behaviour order is a significant step in improving the quality of those people’s lives.
‘I would urge that if anyone sees her breaking the conditions of the order to contact Kent Police on 01634 891055.
"We will not tolerate acts of anti social behaviour and this ASBO proves that we will continue to work in close partnership with Medway Council and the local people to build stronger, safer communities."
If Mrs Hutton breaches her ASBO she will be taken to court. If she continually breaks the ASBO then the maximum penalty is a £5000 fine or five years in prison. The ASBO was granted at Medway Magistrates’ Court on September 23.
