Kent Fire and Rescue crews said flames quickly spread from the lounge and the woman had become overwhelmed by the smoke and needed to get out of her home.

She was given oxygen as she was suffering from breathing in smoke. Crews said her living room suffered fire and smoke damage.

The emergency service urges people not to try and deal with house fires themselves, but to get out quickly and call 999.

Firefighters had dealt with the blaze by 9.30am.
