Woman hit by car on A2 in Gillingham dies in hospital

A woman who was flown to hospital after being hit by a car on the A2 has died.

Emergency services, including the police and paramedics, were called to the scene in Watling Street, Gillingham, at around 3.45pm on Saturday.

Police have confirmed a woman in her 60s, who was hit by a blue BMW near the junction with Holmside, has died in hospital.

Onlookers said police, fire crews and as many as six ambulances were at the scene.

An air ambulance landed nearby and took the woman to a London hospital.

Police closed the road and advised motorists to avoid the area.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are carrying out inquiries and are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

"They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was at the scene but left before speaking to police, or who was driving in the area and who may have relevant dashcam footage."
