A woman who was hit by a train at Rochester station escaped with minor injuries, it has been confirmed.

It is believed the 49-year-old, from Chatham, fell from the platform on the London-bound side.

The incident happened at just after 9am on Sunday.

An ambulance was seen pulling away from the station and British Transport Police officers were in attendance.

The woman was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for assessment.

A BTP spokesman said: "A 49-year-old woman received minor injuries after being struck by a train at Rochester railway station on Sunday, June 1.

"Officers from BTP attended the incident, which was reported at 9.17am, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and the woman, from Chatham, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment."

The train involved was the 8.38am Faversham to London Victoria service.
