Police hunt for suspect after sexual assault in Great Lines Heritage Park, Gillingham

A woman was allegedly threatened and pushed to the ground by a man during a sexual assault in broad daylight.

Detectives have issued a computer-generated image of the suspect following the incident in Great Lines Heritage Park, Gillingham.

It happened at around 4pm yesterday (August 20), after the victim had been walking along a footpath from Chatham and in the direction of Medway Maritime Hospital.

She stopped to sit on a bench, where the suspect sat next to her and started talking to her.

It is alleged he made verbal threats towards the woman who was pushed to the floor during attempts to sexually assault her.

The suspect left the scene and headed towards Chatham High Street after two witnesses approached.

An investigation is being led by detectives who have released an e-fit image of the suspect.

He is described as being white, around 21 years old, with black hair and of slim to medium build.

The suspect was wearing what was described as a grey or blue tank top and grey or blue shorts which fell below the knee.

He had a silver chain around his neck and a black bag across his shoulder.

Members of the local community can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue.
