The new team formed in June last year after Gillingham FC announced as a result of Covid-related re-structuring, they were going to cease to operate the women's first team, having already dismantled the girls' youth system.

First team coach Josh Oatham was not prepared to see that happen and took on Gillingham Ladies FC outright.

Re-naming the squad Gillingham Women FC, they are currently sitting in fifth in the FA Women's National League in the Southern Premier Division.

The team now faces the fully professional outfit Charlton Athletic Women who are currently 6th in WSL 2.

Josh, who is a former assistant coach at Charlton, said: "The ladies have worked as hard as ever to get ready for Sunday.

"I am really proud of where they have got to and we are all looking forward to facing up against professional opposition.

"With Charlton being a big part of my career, it is great to have the chance to take them on."

In preparation for the big game the team have taken their time to take a really good look at what is going to be in front of them on Sunday as there is a huge amount of respect for what Charlton are capable of.

The match kicks off at their home ground, Rochester United FC stadium in Rede Court Road at 1pm with tickets costing £4.
