Get your lasso, spurs and shootin’ irons. Any cowboys and cowgirls in the Medway area are asked to mosey on down to Ranscombe Farm Reserve.
Whether you're a big fan of John Wayne or not, you can leave your cowboy clobber at home, as the nature reserve in Cuxton is asking for volunteer cowherds to help look after a herd of beef cattle.
The animals will be at the frontline of a grazing project, keeping grass and weeds under control to restore and recreate more than 30 hectares (75 acres) of wildflower meadows.
But they need to be checked every day so they stay happy and healthy. Manager Richard Moyse, who said no experience was necessary, added: “It’s great if you like working with animals, want to learn more about conservation or farming.”
The cattle are part of a new integrated grazing scheme which will see the animals moved around the reserve as needed.
