Young people in Medway urged to show support for #BesideYou breastfeeding campaign

Young people across the Towns are being asked to use their creative skills to support a campaign which aims to boost breastfeeding in Medway.

The Beside You campaign is asking youngsters aged 11-18 to create a piece of artwork which shows news mums and mums-to-be that Medway supports breastfeeding in public and community spaces.

The work could be a video, animation, painting, photo, poster, or a song, rap or poem.

The competition opens on Monday and the closing date for entries is Monday, February 20.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 7 and their entry will be used as part of the campaign.

Entries will be judged by Medway Council’s public health team and campaign partner Best Beginnings.

Cllr David Brake, head of public health, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in Medway to get involved in what is a really important campaign for the area.

"We are determined to normalise breastfeeding in Medway and put new mums and mums-to-be at ease about breastfeeding their babies in public.

“We want to support them in their decision and change the attitudes of those who judge mothers for feeding in the most natural way.”
