There is still time to pose a question to Medway's party leaders ahead of tonight's pre-vote hustings.

The Medway Messenger is hosting the event to debate the major election issues at the University of Kent's Chatham Maritime site.

KM Group political editor Paul Francis will chair the debate, which is being organised in conjunction with the Centre for Journalism, in the Pilkington building.

The Green Party's Trish Marchant is the latest confirmed panellist in the Question Time-style event.

She will be joined by Cllr Rodney Chambers (Conservative), who has led Medway Council for eight years; Paul Godwin (Labour), who has been a member of the Medway Renaissance Partnership as well as serving on the Kent Police Authority; and Geoff Juby (Lib Dem), who has frequently spoken on major issues in the Towns - and criticised examples of what he considers to be waste.

The politicians will be joined on the panel by Prof Tim Luckhurst, principal of the centre and a former editor of The Scotsman newspaper.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, from 7pm tomorrow night, and to submit questions for panellists.

The Green party has 14 candidates in Medway's election, including Ms Marchant, on May 5.

She is already a seasoned political campaigner, having contested council and parliamentary elections before.

Ms Marchant is a chartered electrical engineer working for the NHS and a staff governor at Medway Maritime Hospital.

She said: "The inequality between rich and poor, and the shocking seven-year difference in life expectancy across Medway, appals me.

"I want to stop this disconnected council from wasting our hard-earned money on fanciful, expensive and unwanted egotistical regeneration projects that do not benefit local people."

If you want to put a question to the panel, email it to medwaymessenger@thekmgroup.co.uk marking it HUSTINGS.
