Tesco has submitted expansion plans for its Strood store that
would create hundreds of jobs.
The supermarket giant hopes to turn its Cuxton Road
shop into a superstore.
It would create 200 new jobs and 500 car parking spaces for
shoppers.
The bigger store would also have a customer cafe, with the
company planning to create better footpaths and cycle routes from
the shop to the High Street.
A planning application was submitted last week to Medway Council
and a website showing what the store could look like goes live
today (Monday).
Tesco corporate affairs manager Louise Gosling said: "This is a
really exciting opportunity for Strood. Many people in the town
have told us they support our plans and we've listened to what they
want.
"We've responded by coming up with an improved shop which we
think will benefit the whole of the town centre.
"It's very important to keep local people informed on how our
plans have developed and to listen to any further views that people
may have."
A public exhibition will begin on Tuesday at St Nicholas Church,
High Street. It will be open from 10am-4pm on Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday, and 10am-noon on Saturdays, until Saturday, October 16.
