Aaron Morris is a dream signing for Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh.
The 26-year-old, who can play in a variety of positions, agreed a new two-year deal this summer to extend his stay at Priestfield.
It’s that versatility that made Morris such a stand-out performer for the Gills last season.
Edinburgh said: “He is a bit of a manager’s dream.
“He played numerous roles last season and took to them seamlessly. He was an integral part of what we did.
“He is a team player, unsung and he goes about his work quietly and efficiently.
“Aaron grew in stature and over the duration of the season became a key member of the team.
“He is a valuable asset to a manager. He was used in different roles, not only did he do them, he did them with ease and with quality.
“We started him as a holding midfielder, he played right-back, he played right side of the diamond, he played right-sided centre-half and that for a manager is a real great asset to have.
“I am delighted for Aaron, he got stronger as the season went along and was probably one of the unsung heroes of the season we had.”
Welshman Morris has spent the last two seasons at the club, having originally been signed by former boss Peter Taylor. He has already played over 50 league games for the Gills.
He ended the season suffering a knee injury, missing the last game of the season against Millwall. But he has returned fit for pre-season.
Edinburgh said: “We knew we wanted to keep him at the club and we didn’t want to risk him with him not being 100% fit.”
