New head coach Ady Pennock has given a clear hint at the way he wants his side to play.
He wants Gillingham “rocking and rolling” again and believes he knows the way to do it.
Former Gills boss Justin Edinburgh adopted numerous formations during his 101-game spell but rarely played wingers. That could now change.
Pennock said: “I do love wingers, when I go and watch games, if there are a couple of wingers that are exciting, they take on a full-back and get crosses in, it is exciting for everyone, it gets people on the edge of their seat.
“I do like that and that could possibly be the way we are going but we will have to wait and see.
“I want to get this place rocking and rolling again. It was a fantastic place last time I was here and the supporters are top drawer, home and away. The amount of supporters we take away and the noise they make is phenomenal. That has carried on since I haven’t been here.
“I hope to get the bums on the seats and then off the seats when they are enjoying their football and seeing us winning games.
“Fans want to come and get their money’s worth. Win, lose or draw I want the fans to see that the players have had a go.”
Pennock will assess his current squad to see who could fit the bill but is also looking for new additions.
“We could have them in the building already,” he said. “Who is to say they aren’t in the youth team, age doesn’t worry me, if they are 15 or 16 and good enough to be in the first team then they will be.”
Pennock was a fans’ favourite as a player, captaining the side during his playing days, but he knows results are all that matter as a manager.
He said: “Hopefully they still love me and the way they will keep doing that is by us winning games.
“If I lose the first 10 games they aren’t going to love me anymore, that’s for sure, that’s football and that is being realistic. They know my feelings to them, which will remain forever.”
