JESSICA TROWBRIDGE, Kate Buchan and Jennifer Pereira combined superbly to win the under-17 gold medal for Medway and Maidstone AC at the National Young Athletes League Road Relay Championships in Birmingham.
Over a 3.8k course, Trowbridge ran a sound race on a hard first leg which started on grass before taking to the road. She brought the team home in 10th place in a time of 15min 12sec.
On the second leg, Kate Buchan, who had not raced for a few months, astounded the team's supporters by completing it in 14.49 to elevate the team to fourth spot. Pereira, who has shown good form over the country all season, then transferred this form to a great third leg. She overtook all teams ahead to bring M&M home a minute ahead of one of the pre-race favourites, Aldershot and Farnham.
Pereira not only picked up the team gold medal but was also rewarded by the equal first fastest leg medal in a time of 13.39.
