Gillingham teenager Ben Chapman could be set for a loan move to see some action.

Chapman hasn’t been in the squad for a league game during the early stages of this campaign, despite an impressive showing during pre-season and a glowing reference from the manager.

The 18-year-old impressed in Gills’ midweek friendly with Maidstone but has moved down the pecking order following a couple of recent loan additions.

Max Ehmer switched to midfield last weekend and Jake Hessenthaler has also seen some action of late.

Coach Jamie Day said: “We will look to get him to a Conference, Conference South side, to get some games.

“He had a good pre-season and is someone who we rate really highly. Had we been in a bit better situation then he might have had some time on the bench or got a few minutes.

“We need experienced lads to get us through this current period. For him, going out on loan would do him the world of good. We just need to find the right club and right environment for him to enjoy and play games at a good level.”
