Hollands & Blair will hope to get their season firing this Saturday and a newly installed stand at Star Meadow will help.

The Laurence Plummer Stand was removed during their 3G pitch renovation works last year but a new 100-seater structure - named after the man who put so much into the club - has been installed ahead of the visit of Fisher.

Blair lost their Southern Counties East Premier Division opener at Tunbridge Wells a fortnight ago 1-0 and were beaten 3-0 at home to Ashford United in last Saturday’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round match.

The mood at Blair remains upbeat, however, with fans now able to watch in comfort. Manager Scott Porter hopes those watching this weekend will see his side perform well on another positive day for the club.

Porter said: “We have to win on Saturday, that’s a massive game. We haven’t scored in the league or cup, we need to score, we need to win, simple as that.

“The ground is looking lovely and it’s a big occasion for the football club with the brand new stand being installed.”

The other stand behind the goal has already undergone a refurbishment.

Saturday’s visitors Fisher might have revenge on their minds, having lost to Blair in the Challenge Cup final at the end of last season.

Porter said: “Fisher is another big test, they beat Deal (in their first game of the season) and drew on Saturday in the FA Cup. [They lost the replay 5-2 on Tuesday night].

“The cup final, with the spice it had, I am sure it will be a spicy affair on Saturday, which is fine by us.”

It was a below-par performance against Ashford in the cup, with Porter bemoaning a “mad five-minute spell” which left them two goals down and a performance overall where his side “had the handbrake on.”

He said: “We got punished from not taking our chance in the first five minutes and then they punished us, after a couple of mistakes from the officials. The ball went out, she (the assistant) didn’t see it and it was offside, with the other assistant referee talking to their bench at the time.

“We were annoyed at that situation and it carried on to the next goal. Dan Ellis (the goalkeeper) has held his hands up to it. He was still frustrated with the first goal and instead of picking up the ball he kicked it straight to their player. It was a mad five minutes which basically settled the tie.

“After that, against a side with the players they’ve got, it was difficult.

“We kept plugging away. It was probably the worst performance since we started with the new system but a team a level above doesn’t give you as much time as they would in our league. It was disappointing and I didn’t think we took the handbrake off.

"There were a lot of players who didn’t give me what they had in the last six weeks. It ended up being a bit of a stroll for them because the occasion got to a few of our boys. We have a lot of youngsters in our team and we spoke about that afterwards.

“You have to be at your best when playing teams at a higher level.

“We need to move the ball quicker, get it forward faster. It’s okay having the possession but you also need the killer balls going forward.

“We are working tirelessly as a management team to make it right, we have transformed in eight weeks to where we were last season, it takes time, but we will get it right and we still have some big players missing.”

Alfie Giles is back Saturday but Lewis Allan is away. Dale Davis has been struggling with an Achilles injury but Donnell Anderson replaced him on 29 minutes against Ashford and Porter liked what he saw.

“He was a massive plus out of that performance,” he said.

Anderson was with Herne Bay last season and spent the summer with Phoenix Sports before being picked up by Blair.

Porter has also signed left-back James Nurden in the week from Tunbridge Wells. He remains on the lookout for another striker.

Blair introduced Albanian midfielder Armand Grosha off the bench on Saturday and included newcomer Marlon Peter-Brown (midfield), as an unused substitute, a former Arsenal junior and Chelsea development player who has previously played with Rochester United. Both are lacking fitness.

There was also a first appearance for the son of former Blair assistant Clint Gooding. Finlay Gooding has come through the youth ranks at Maidstone United and was introduced off the bench.

Blair’s match with Fisher is a 3pm kick off. Their reserves, meanwhile, start their season on Saturday in the Kent County League away to Whitstable Town under-23s.
