Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh could yet make an offer to play-off hero Josh Wright.
Midfielder Wright is training with Gills and played the second half of Saturday’s friendly draw against Portsmouth.
It was his first appearance for the club since setting up the winning goal for Simeon Jackson in the 2009 League 2 play-off against Shrewsbury at Wembley while on loan from Charlton.
Still only 25, the former Scunthorpe and Millwall man is a free agent after leaving Leyton Orient at the end of last season.
He asked to train with Gills, who were happy to help.
Gillingham may add to their squad if injury concerns over Doug Loft and Cody McDonald continue – and that could open the door for Wright.
Edinburgh said: “Josh has come in with a first-class attitude and done well in training.
“We’re helping him and we just thought it would be good for him to get some minutes and maybe pose some questions.
“You don’t know. It’s just depending on how the injuries progress over this week and we’ll assess it from there.
“He contacted us and said would there be an opportunity for him to come and train?
“He’d been here before and done well for the club. He’s a good professional and if you can
help people like that, then we’re willing to do it.
“Hopefully, we can work together, whether it be here or we try and help him get himself fixed up somewhere else.”
