Gillingham’s weekend defeat could have cost them more than just points.

Striker Luke Norris picked up another knock to his ankle, aggravating the injury which he sustained in the home game against Bradford last month, as Gills went down 1-0 at Blackpool.

With striker Cody McDonald already out long-term, it will be a nervy wait to find out the nature of Norris’ latest problem.

He missed two months with an injury to his other ankle earlier this season.

The Bradford injury, coming weeks after his return, wasn’t considered serious at the time but the setback on Saturday suggests it may be an issue.

It will be another tense wait for Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

“It is a recurrence of the ankle injury so hopefully it is not too bad but that has put another dampener on what was a bad day,” said Edinburgh. “We will assess him and see where we are.”

Edinburgh is expected to conclude negotiations with Championship side Reading to extend Dominic Samuel’s loan spell until the end of the season. The deadline for finalising long-term loans is at 11pm on Monday.

The Gills are also in the process of concluding a move for Cardiff defender Deji Oshilaja. A 93-day loan has been agreed, which will give the Championship side a recall option after the first month.
