Justin Edinburgh wants more from his main men.

Bradley Dack is one of those lacking the form he showed last year as the Gills got involved in the League 1 promotion race.

Edinburgh’s team have struggled to reach those heights this season and on Monday night they were handed a football lesson by high-flying Bolton.

Gills manager Edinburgh wants to be battling at the top again but knows he needs more consistency.

He said: “We have some good players but they have to do it on a consistent basis.

“Dacky hasn’t quite got back to the form that he showed last year. That is not through lack of effort, it just isn’t rolling for him.

“He had a fantastic year last year but some of these players at Bolton have been doing it year after year, not in Division 1 but in the Championship. You can’t hide behind that. Can we aspire to be like Bolton? Of course we can, that is where our aims are but that is not always possible and it wasn’t on Monday."

Gills are back in action on Saturday at home to MK Dons. Edinburgh may well be without Billy Knott after he was left out for the trip to Bolton, struggling with a hamstring injury.

Chris Herd is likely to be back available for selection after injury ruled him out of Monday’s 4-0 defeat.

Left-back Bradley Garmston, meanwhile, has spent more time at St George’s Park in a bid to get fit. His return from a dislocated knee-cap ended with a hamstring injury in his second game back.
