Chatham Town Women ended their losing streak in midweek and will go looking for their first three points this Sunday.

Defeats to Hashtag United and MK Dons in the league came either side of a loss to AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup, as the Chats made a losing start to their campaign. They halted that run on Tuesday night, with a goalless draw against Billericay Town at the Bauvill Stadium.

Chatham are away to Oxford United in the Women’s National League Southern Premier Division this Sunday.

Speaking after their midweek draw, Chatham interim manager Jesus Cordon said: “Looking from where we have come from it is a positive result, to get a first point and a first clean sheet of the season, that’s a positive.

“I think we deserved more from our performance in the game, that is the feeling of the team too, a feeling of frustration at the end of the game, okay it was positive, but we felt we should have won it, but that’s good, it shows the team is ambitious and Billericay are a good team.”

Chatham had some good chances in the game and hit the crossbar against Billericay.

Last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Milton Keynes Dons came despite a promising start to the game and Cordon knows they needed to do more in the attacking third.

Cordon said: “It was true, we were not very good in the final third, playing in their half but not really creating chances, we need to work on that.

“They were playing on the counter attack, they got a couple of corners and we concede from two of them, one from a second phase and one direct, we lost our confidence from that, got a bit sloppy. Second half we were back into it but it was too late, we lost a ball in midfield and it cost us the third goal.

“We did have some very good moments of play and we pressed them well but there were also not-so-good moments.”

Looking ahead to their match in Oxford tomorrow, Cordon said: “I’m expecting a tight game and a tough game.

“They have changed a lot from last season, they are coming into it after negative results against Hashtag (on Sunday) and a tough game against Rugby Borough (on Wednesday), but if we stick to our game plan and our jobs, and do what we’ve been doing in the training, then I think we have a good chance to win the game and get our first three points.

“We want those points, we need them, I think after Tuesday’s performance the team feel a bit more confident, they’ve recovered the feeling that they can compete against anyone in this league which is important. We will go into the game with confidence.”
