One of the most hotly-contested honours in this year’s Medway Sports Awards is likely to be Coach of the Year.

Plenty of impressive nominations have already arrived for this prestigious award but there’s still time for you to put your favourite coach in the running.

And with one eye on the competition, here’s a brief rundown of some of the nominations so far.

Jim Winter-Nolan (United Judo Club, Gillingham) – a senior club coach and as dedicated as they come. Winter-Nolan creates a warm, friendly and welcoming environment for both children and adults, whether they are participating in lessons or spectating.

He was the founder of the club and has seen good and challenging times. Coaching for over 20 years, he has had players competing at regional and national levels right through to international level.

Steve Munday (Medway and Maidstone AC) – Munday works hard with his training group at Medway Park. He has helped several athletes to achieve their goals and become champions in their age groups. He guided the under-17 girls relay teams to win a silver and bronze in the England Championships 2014.

Trevor Towers (Chatham Table Tennis Club) – Towers is a Level 2 UKCC qualified coach and the senior coach at the club. He is a dedicated individual with plenty of enthusiasm. He attends the National Cadet League dates when he gives guidance and encouragement to all of their younger players and has had great success with teams finishing in good positions.

This year’s gala awards evening will take place on Friday, December 12 at Rochester’s Corn Exchange. There are 11 categories, including a new award recognising achievements in officiating, umpiring or refereeing.
